Message to the author: WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME????

Where do I even start reviewing this book… I expected a lovely summer/surfer romance and got taken captive by a perfect love story that made me cry my eyes out around 1 am.

I lost my heart to Finn Summers, my ADHD golden retriever boy. He’s committed to taming the waves in a small coastal town and he doesn’t let go of that idea until he’s able to do so. I love how the author portrays his ADHD and as someone who has hyperfixation tendencies as well, I felt incredibly seen.

Now, grumpy Riddick. God knows he tried, but there was no stopping falling into the tornado that Finn is. He’s the calm to his storm, with his stern eyes and strict rules at first, later with his comfort and praise.

Go in blind, enjoy the summer vibes only a small town can give and get hooked by Finn’s and Riddick’s love story.

Wow! Just wow. I was not expecting to be blown away by this book when I started it but I absolutely was. This turned out to be way more than your typical contemporary romance novel (though it is that too)! Finn is the sweetest, sunshine golden retriever guy and Riddick is the quintessential hot, over-protective grumpy zaddy. Their love is so beautiful and their back and forth banter is delightful to read. Watching their relationship grow is tense and wonderful and frustrating but the pay off is so worth it. Your heart will break, be put back together, and then break again, only to be put back together in the most bittersweet way.

This book broke my heart entirely and I can never read it again, but I loved it so much.
The characters were all so great but obviously Riddick and Finn were my fave. They had both lost so much so you can feel the grief from right at the beginning, the whole book had such a sad undertone.

The side characters were alot of fun, I have a massive soft spot for Turtle.

I love Alexandra's writing style, the book was so easy to get into and had me hooked from the beginning. I guessed a few things about the plot but it didn't take away from the story at all!!

I dont know why i thought I would come out of this book unscathed, but that was very delusional of me cause I AM NOT OKAY. Finn and Riddick were amazing; their push and pull was cute and humorous but once their relationship actually started, it was like you could feel the way they loved and cared about each other through the pages, so when the shoe dropped so to speak, it was an emotional rollercoaster. The ending of this book broke me, even though in the back of my mind i knew it was coming, but i also feel like the ending that we got was the best ending that we could have gotten for these characters, it felt poetic in a way. In the best way possible, the first half of this book and the second half of this book felt like reading two seperate books, this is definitely a book that i suggest going into blind. This book was such a beautifally crafted look on greif and how different it looks for different people; it is touched on in the author's note a bit more but that was probably one of the shining points for this book.

SPICE: 3🌶 | RATING: 5⭐️

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

MY HEART 😭💔🌊

This book wrecked me in the best way. I think a little piece of my soul is still wandering the cove with Finn Summers — the actual definition of a golden-hearted cinnamon roll 💛

I adored him. I related to him. And I wanted to wrap him in bubble wrap and protect him from the world. Finn is sweet, vulnerable, and unforgettable.

Without giving anything away, this story is beautifully immersive, emotionally raw, and quietly powerful. It left me teary-eyed, soul-touched, and completely wrecked 😭.

Alexa, play Why You Wanna Hurt Me by The Gap Band. Because seriously little Miss Alexandra, what the actual F?!?! This book honestly had no right being this good after trying to brutalize my emotions the way it did. My friends know that I’m not the type of person to cry. I don’t cry from books. And I didn’t!! But I very much felt the heartbreak and I was not comfortable with it lol.

Finn is the sweetest ball of chaotic sunshine. He’s stubborn and irrational and a hot mess, but he’s also perfect exactly as he is. Riddick, our grumpy and protective man, with a secret gooey soft spot for his baby boy Finn. These two together *sigh*, such tragic perfection.

It’s hard to discuss their story without giving too much away, but I will say that this book is unique and unexpected. We’re given intense passion, tender sweetness, delicious tension and a heavy dose of hurt. But even with the hurt, you’ll find yourself healed in the most unexpected way in the end.

  • Loved the summery vibes and surfing culture!
  • The writing did a great job of setting up a work that felt real and lived in. The characters felt like they had deep relationships and the banter and humour were entertaining.
  • Finn as a character was especially well written. It was interesting to see into his everyday interactions and thoughts as a person who doesn’t feel fear.
  • Depictions of grief throughout the book for a number of characters felt very relatable and emotional. I enjoyed how the writing showed the different stages as well as how it can still affect people years later.
  • Loved the relationship between the two main characters. From the build up to after the climax it was exciting, funny, sad and heartwarming.
  • So many shocking moments but I like to think it’s a happy ending!

Finn and Riddick are both amazing characters. They were both written so well.

I was pretty much hooked from the beginning of the book. When Alexandra St. Pierre said you will cry, she wasn’t kidding. The last 5% of the book had me crying. We do get a HEA and I love that Finn will never be alone again. 🩷
