So disjointed

Hands down, coolest story ever - minus the epilogue work. That kind of build-up was perfection, though I wish Simone had the free-reign to go on and on and tell a more fleshed out version. I can't get enough of Barbara Gordon. I wish we could have more Gail Simone Batgirl, because that anime looking follow-up don't cut it.

I think a lot of people are put out that there's holes to the story, like where you need every DC title tie-in to see exactly what went down. I'm willing to grant the story's limit with that understanding but if I'm wrong, then what the freak??

But back to the epilogue. What the hey was that? Was that supposed to be a massive set-up to other stuff? Was it an "everything I intended preview?" (almost like Archer Vice's trailer within episode) I just want to write it out of my BRAIN.

I do so love reading about Barbara Gordon and it's hard to find a writer that understands her as much as Gail Simone does. This volume ends Gail's run on the series and manages to tie up all outstanding plot threads with a nice bow. Highly recommend this series.

I am basically reviewing issues 19-34, plus Batgirl Annual #2 and Batgirl; Future's End #1. Since I subscribe I read by issue, I don't want until the trade comes out, although that seemed to work out here for Volume 4!

I was really starting to get into this storyline. All the stuff that was going on in Barbara's family life and dating life were moving along nicely. I feel like Simone finally hit her stride. While the Ventriloquist was creepy, like other villains she didn't get her chance in the spotlight and I think that's because of the crossovers that aren't listed here (so not really Simone's fault). This is why the other day I mentioned the comic book black hole. You find that the series you're reading crossing into another series so you think you'll just buy that issue in that other series, but then what if that series is really good will you feel like you're missing something if you just jump in? Of course you will! So you start buying comics left and right and it's a neverending black hole.

But the Knightfall storyline has been going on almost since the beginning, just before Death of the Family and it gets wrapped up rather nicely here before we switch over to the Veronica Mars edition of Batgirl. (but more on that at another time)

I feel like there was still a lot more story to be told by Simone, but unfortunately, DC didn't see it that way. At least we got an ending.

The #2 Annual was also great (I love Poison Ivy) but again, I knew I needed to pick up the New 52 Birds of Prey so that really set me back a bit.

Future's End was ..... interesting.

In the end I really did grow to love Simone's Batgirl and I wish she got to spend some more time delving into that character. I'm continuing on with Fletcher and Stewart's Batgirl so we'll see how that goes.

Deadline is the fifth and final run in Gail Simone's run on Batgirl, containing several one shots and the final showdown with Knightfall. While some of the one shots didn't do it for me, the results were overall solid, which pretty much sums up my impression on Simone's run as a whole. Not the strongest of the new 52 comics, but certainly not the weakest. A comic that I was happy to pick up and read from my library, but wouldn't spend my own money on. And that's pretty much how I recommend both Deadline, and the entire run to others: check it out from the library. You will likely find it to be a worthwhile use of your time.

The Deadline arc ends with hints of an interesting future for Batgirl. I will be continuing the comic to see what that future will be.

I loved the paranormal, horror and dream elements. Throw in a lot of kick ass women to save the day, awesome. The end issue made me feel like it was a Buffy wanna- be graphic storyline but this is Batgirl, no plural.

Again this one was sort of meh. I feel that by the last two volumes, the storyline was kind of thrown out of the window. It jumped around too much for me. I still adore the first three volumes though.

Great end to a fantastic series. Very strong all the way through. The crossovers make me wanna pick up Birds of Prey. The one shots were interesting as well. Too bad Burnside follows this incredibly awesome and mature Babs...

2.5*. Brief moments of good, but ultimately a let down. Looking forward to reading the new version/not-quite-a-reboot with the new design, city, etc.
