Check your trigger warnings. I don't mind a check-your-brain-at-the-door book, but this was a bit much. Almost to the point of parody, but then includes a decent amount of heavy stuff. Not for me.

I couldn't get into this book, the writing could get repetitive and it was pretty slow. The descriptions and writing style didn't click with me but it was a nice, light sci-fi romance. I will try the next one because I like these tropes/stories even if I don't connect with the heroine.

This was a decent read. It was interesting to read about the different world and culture on another planet, and we get a decent amount of that and plot. For me, a better book would have been longer with a lot more info about the new planet she finds herself on, but it was short and sweet, and I didn’t feel as if the author skimped on the details.

This has been in recommendations so many times and I finally relented.

As an alien romance? Eh. Not really alien. Stronger human dude with markings that look like tattoos but are actually scars.

As a story in general? Yeah, it's alright. It all felt a little .. cliche in a way, a little too obvious, but I overall enjoyed it and would be willing to read more of the series. The writing was good, the characters were okay, the plot was solid.

I'm interested in learning more about life outside of Clecania (being a sci fi nerd interested in aliens in an alien romance) but not sure how much the series will indulge that. Guess I'll find out!

I'm disappointed there isn't a book about Rhaego in the series yet (6 books as of writing this) because he'd be my next obvious choice (being described as looking like a demon but being a romantic sweetheart and all) but looks like it's mostly all the superhuman dudes. That said, I did see on the author's GR page that they DO plan on writing a book about Rhaego eventually so woohoo!

At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this but I'm so glad I stuck with it. It was sweet and funny, with great spice. Definitely a new favourite.

Full rating below:

Characters: 10/10
I loved the two main characters, they had believable flaws, great banter and chemistry. I also loved some of the side characters too.

Atmosphere: 8/10
Great depictions of new people and customs, but I'd love to have had more. Points for food descriptions!

Writing: 8/10
The scenes between characters, and dialogue, were all great. I found the beginning a little shakey, but it definitely improved.

Plot: 10/10
I love a gimmick like "you have to choose a husband!" So I ate that up.

Intrigue: 10/10
On the edge of my seat waiting for them both to confess how they felt.

Logic: 9/10
Some little things gave me pause but for the most part it was sound.

Entertainment: 10/10
Definitely loved this, and very happy to have picked it up. I even enjoyed it despite pregnancy being a hated trope of mine, so that's some pretty high praise.

Overall rating: 9.29

Though not my favorite alien romance, it is well-written with decent world-building. I plan to read the next in the series because I think I'll find it a little more exciting.

I was frustrated with the actions of the characters and wished the plot was a little more exciting. Most of the story takes place at Theo's house, which I thought was a little boring. The action doesn't ramp up until very close to the end.

I didn't like how Theo treated Jade in the beginning and how long it took him to get over thinking she might be a spy. I wish more explanation or background had been given for his fear about her being a spy. We're told he was a mercenary and he might have enemies, but I felt like there could have been more given for how adamantly he refused to believe this rare human woman wanted to be with him, especially since it seems like he's basically not working much any more anyway.

When Jade is told about this alien society, they make it sound like women are revered and taken great care of, but most of the actions throughout the story don't match up to that in my opinion. I'm hoping the other books will have male characters that are a bit more like cinnamon rolls or golden retrievers because that's how I like my alien boyfriends.

oH MY GOD ok so i’ve never been the type to read books with aliens other than ice planet barbarians a few months ago because i was curious as to why booktok was obsessing over it so much (i was obviously disappointed i mean what was that?) HOWEVER choosing theo was the sweetest cutest little thing ever!!!!!!!!!! i loved everything about it, from the characters to the development of their relationship to the bonding moments and the fact that even though the author could have easily fallen into the miscommunication trope at a certain point she didn’t and i’ll forever be grateful for it, i did feel like the last few pages were a bit rushed and everything started happening so fast but that did not make the story any less enjoyable, honestly every time theo did anything i was just sitting at my room looking at jade and thinking damn i wish that was me🧎‍♀️not sure if i’ll be reading the next few books in the series but i loved this one and i’m sure the others are probably just as enjoyable!!!!!!
