So brutal. So bleak with one gorgeous ending. 

This book does not let up and while it has some really beautiful parts, it chews you up and SPITS you out. 

What is the meaning of all the suffering?! Nothing, there is no meaning and that royally hurt me. I recommend looking up trigger warnings but just know that Kawakami is so straight forward and blunt about the relentless bullying it feels cruel. 

Choosing to remember poor Kojima’s words: 

But it isn’t meaningless. When it’s all over, we’ll reach a place, somewhere or something we could never reach without having gone through everything we’ve gone through. Know what I mean?
