I read this book when I was young.

I’m now 32. And I still say this is one of my favourite books I have ever read. I fell in love with it instantly. It still floats around in my head in my thirties. Teen me adored this book. It was the first book that ever made me feel anything when reading. For any young person getting into reading, this book is definitely for you.

This book is the kind of childhood favourite I can't possibly be objective about, but reading it again for the first time since I was 12 - it holds up.

Depicts a deadbeat mother in a way I haven't seen before or since - not as a monster or a victim, but as a real person, whose charisma does a lot to shield her from the consequences of her selfishness (a characterisation I find both interesting and very realistic).

Also features the first found family I remember really connecting with, and centres on a type of story I've always found very compelling - girls trying to do good things while living with the consequences of someone else's (usually an adult's) choices.

Creates a simultaneously beautiful and realistic portrait of a specific lifestyle (that of a festival traveller) from the perspective of a curious preteen. This, along with the story itself, is why if I had the chance to adapt any book into a film, this would be a top contender - I feel this book would make a genuinely good film, in a way not all books do, and a lot of that has to do with the visual and atmospheric detail it provides.

This book was very good. I truly did marvel at the original ideas put into this work of literature. It is definitely a must read fit the future.

I love this book because it talks about a girl whos mom left her around 4 years old and she only hears from her when it's her birthday. Her parents used to be hippies, but her dad wanted to settle down, so he took Dizzy and moved into a house with Dizzy. But one year, when Dizzy was turning 12 or 13 (idk), her mom came to acually see her. Her mom talked to her about coming with her to some festivals and she would talk to her dad about it. Since her mom was still a hippy, she lived in a van and traveled a lot. Dizzy left with her mom, since her mom told her, her dad said "yes." She was like a mom to a child who stole a lot, the child was her mom's boyfriend's son. She found love with a boy she grew up with. When her mom and her boyfriend moved, she stayed with her own boyfriend with her "son" or brother. Her boyfriend ran into the fire to save him. One night, she was sleeping in her boyfriend's lubhouse with him, she touched his foot, then stroked it. Dizzy complimented his "perfect" feet. Her "son" was BMXing over a bonfire as a gift for Dizzy's boyfriend's birthday, but Dizzy kicked the ramp, so a branch got stuck in the BMX tire s o her "son" fell in the fire. Her boyfriend ran into the fire to save him. When they both came out, her boyfriend's "perfect" feet were burned and not perfect anymore. Her "son's" whole body was destroyed and also burned. They were both brought to the hospital. Her dad called and started yelling at her for leaving without his permission. Her dad came and got her. He announced that his girlfriend was going to be moving in. Well you have to read the story to figure out the whole deal with Dizzy! Ok bye-bye! :) <3
