Loved this single mom/brother’s best friend second chance romance. This is the second book in the series, books 1,2 and 3 are all written by different authors. I wasn’t sure how this was going to work, but loved book 1 and 2 and it felt cohesive.

Violet returns home with her daughter after her divorce.  She's working as a nurse in the local burn unit.  Rowan is  one of the local hotshots (a specific kind of firefighter).  They've known each other forever.  Her brother and Rowan were best friends and later became firefighters together.  Sadly, Violet's brother died after a tragic fire incident.  In high school, she fell for him only to have him crush her in one evening.

Now that she's returned home, Rowan is still smitten by her and wants to make things right with her.  There's a reason he hurt her feelings so many years ago but he's never stopped loving her.  He's willing to do anything to make things right with her.

Nice second chance romance story.

Liked this plot a little more than the first and such a good read. A really deep story that transitioned well from the first in the series. I’m not usually a fan of long term mis/non-communication, like in Love and Other Words, but this was a little more reasonable and was handled well. The reason he never told her the truth about their relationship when they were in high school and the reasons they took so long to reconcile made a lot of sense. Really impressed by how cohesive it was even being written by different authors. Can’t wait for the next one.

SUMMARY:
Imagine coming into the town pub with the crew, dirty and exhausted, only to walk right into the twin sister of his lost best friend, the one who got away, and his biggest regret. Rowan Kingsley hasn’t seen Violette Taylor in years but he hasn’t forgotten her either. He used to be Rowan to her. Now, he's just King, the guy who broke her heart, but not for the reasons she thinks. Violette is back in town for good, she's a single mom and a nurse in the burn unit Rowan accidentally winds up in. Can you call that fate? Maybe, if she wasn’t doing her best to stay far away from anyone who reminded her of her past, especially a career hotshot like him. But Rowan knew something she didn’t; life rarely offers second chances. So, if this is his chance to finally make things right, he's taking it.

REVIEW:
Protect is the second book in the Sky Ridge Hotshots trilogy and my first book by Paisley Hope. This contemporary romance is the story of Rowan Kingsley a hotshot that had walked right into the twin sister of his lost best friend, the one who got away, and his biggest regret. Violette Taylor has just moved back into town with her three-year-old daughter after her divorce to be closer to her supportive family with her new job in the burn unit at the hospital as a nurse. They both lost their best friend though Violette has felt her twin's lost differently as he was a part of her in a way that she felt his pain no matter the distance. Violette at first wouldn't allow Rowan into her heart after they way he broke her heart when they were teenagers though that didn't stop him from slowly breaking down her walls.
It was such an intense moment when Rowan had stepped into that ash pit just like Jacob had and had me wondering if he would make it but thankfully survived with only second degree burns.

It was such a cute moment when Rowan finally met Violette's daughter Hollie as the little girl was a bit shy at first but had an instant connection with him as they started a simple conversation. When Rowan finally told Violette the truth behind his breaking her heart was an emotional moment for both of them since it brought to light what Jacob had done but it was the start to them finally healing. Another emotional moment had been when Rowan dropped everything to make arrangements for Hollie to see the Super Pets show that her father had bailed on so that she could have the time of her life and wouldn't be sad or disappointed.
It wasn't until Rowan finally told Violette the truth of why we broke her heart that they both started to heal enough that they finally gave into the love that had always been there between them since they first met. Paisley Hope delivered a contemporary romance that had me sucked into Rowan and Violette's love story 'till the HEA end. I'm excited to finally read Honor the story between Xander and Teddy by Danielle Baker.
