I don't know if it's normal to be this in love with a fictional character, but here we are. Rowan Kingsley is perfect, and I am utterly obsessed. Second chance romance + single parent = sign me up. Rowan is a hotshot wildfire firefighter, and Violette is a burn unit trauma nurse. They were together in high school until Rowan broke Violette's heart. Now, Violette is back in Skyridge, and although she had no intention of reconnecting with Rowan, fate has other plans. Violette is the one who got away, and Rowan is ready to make sure she doesn't get away again.
Rowan and Violette's story was an emotional rollercoaster, and I was completely invested in their journey. I loved every second of these two finding their way back to each other. Rowan is a sweet golden retriever, but oh, did he have a mouth on him. The spice was spicin' in this story! Rowan is protective and refuses to give up on a happy ending with Violette. The way he showed up for Violette and Hollie was so heartwarming. I admired Violette's strength, and it was so good seeing her allow Rowan to take care of her. Protect is the perfect slow-burn, single mom, second-chance romance with all the feels. Rowan and Violette were meant to be, and their journey was beautiful. I can't wait to read the other books in this trilogy.
Narration:
After reading this story, I was pleased to listen to the audiobook performed in duet by Samantha Brentmoor and Gideon Frost. They are the perfect voices for Violette and Rowan. I was already in love with this couple, but hearing my favorite scenes in audio was an amazing experience. I loved the way Sam and Gideon brought the characters to life. Rowan's interactions with Hollie made me melt. Violette and Rowan are so good for each other, and I could feel that while listening. Sam's kid voice? Perfection. Sam and Gideon's performances transported me to Sky Ridge, and I didn't want to leave. These two amazing voice actors elevated my experience with this book, and I highly recommend listening to this audiobook.

The angst was too much. The past angst, present angst - I felt suffocated. I might pick this up again in the future but not right now.
4.5 +++
This one was sssoooooo good! it was my first Paisley Hope reading but not the last ! Rowan is such a sweetheart, loved the storyline, the balance between the dual timeline, the banter with the hotshots crew, etc. Thought i liked "Fight", but this one was next level.

Love these books. Rowan is the cutest and the flashbacks were the right amount to show their connection. I liked Violette and her coming to terms with her grief. Wish Jacob could have had more of a presence. But these books are so well crafted there’s no stupid break up or side plot and you just love the hotshots. Poor baby Rowan got hurt and it’s just hot fun!

It wasn't until I started this book that I realized that each book in the series is written by a different author. Thankfully, this book was just as good as the first. I love that these two were high school sweethearts, which makes the years they could have had together all the more tragic. Not only is this a Dual POV book, but we also slowly learn the reason for their estrangement through chapters that are flashbacks seen through the eyes of both characters. I've never quite read a book laid out this way, and I found I enjoyed it.
