This book annoyed me. The fact that Gary Paulsen never writes an ending scene wrapping up the story irks me to my core.

I read The River in memory of Gary Paulsen's death yesterday, October 13th, 2021. I didn't read this installment in the Brian Saga when I was younger. I loved seeing the growth of Brian in this book. Having to care for another helpless human being in a survival situation is a whole level of test and the clever boy does everything he knows to do, with success, while still remaining an entirely believable narrative.

Couldn't put it down and with my reading pace, I read this in less than 2 hours which is crazy

This sequel was disappointing after the first book. Just like Brian said, his experience wasn't real at first. It wasn't all that exciting to read. Then when it got interesting as they are headed down the river, it's just over.

I enjoyed this much more than Hatchet. Quick little novella to get more of Brian's story.
