The River was a wonderful continuation to Brian’s story in Hatchet. Even as a kid, I felt like the book lacked build-up and also ended too quickly. With more than 20 empty pages between chapters, the story was much shorter than the page count portrayed. I have always wished they’d fleshed the story out and filled those empty pages! This desire has not changed to this day.

I like these little books. Brian is an inspirational character. He does have suspiciously consistent good luck with surviving all the crazy things that happen, but he is very tenacious and never gives up.

Didn’t like the way they extended the series. The premise didn’t hit with me.

I always enjoy a wilderness adventure story--they remind me of my dad. This book was predictable, but well-written.

The whole premise of this book is really a reach, but still an enjoyable survival story.
