I enjoyed this one. As a review I saw before going in said - Yahtzee does an excellent job of making an absolutely ridiculous plot pretty realistic and believable. A fun ride, despite being pretty flawed - can see this is an early work.
Strengths: Love the humour, strange metaphors and social commentary. Enjoyed having a protagonist that was a bit of an idiot for a change. Mary.
Weaknesses: Over-simplified, one dimensional characters work for the humor and post apocalyptic society-building, but made the main "squad" feel like the more unbelievable part of the story. Ending was very bad, like "and then I woke up" bad.

I actually came out of this book thinking it could have been funnier. There are some pacing issues and it could have been 50 pages shorter, but whats here is generally enjoyable. Sharp Yahtzee Croshaw wit and a ludicrous plot and main character are the main draws here, and it felt like a SyFy Channel movie. I mean that as a compliment.
Excellent apocalyptic book! This book has all the death, destruction and instability you would expect from an apocalyptic novel while still be completely and totally hilarious. Loved the characters (especially Mary, the spider) and really loved the jampocalypse. Worth reading!

Well, it's a nice story, but I guess if it were a game Yahtzee would review it on a double feature.
That being said, I hope he keeps writting, his stories are anything but conventional.
now, about the audiobook, why does he narrates like that? its like the phrase "just five more miiiinutes" but extended for hours.

This book only works if you're willing to accept that every single person in Brisbane is a moron. Never been there myself, but I find it hard to believe. It gets sort of hard to keep interested in characters that are so unrealistically stupid.
The events themselves stop being humorous pretty early on in the book, leaving most of the humor to depend on similes, which wears pretty thin pretty fast.
So between characters I don't care for and humor I can't really find, reading the books turns into more of a chore half way through.
