I really enjoyed reading Jam but I am also an avid fan of all things incredibly cheesy and this certainly fits the bill. The whole book is about an absurd situation in which the city of Brisbane is overrun by man-eating strawberry jam and it's up to a handful of survivors to figure out what the hell is going on and how to get out of there all while trying to avoid the jam and other survivors. This is a great popcorn read in the sense that it is both silly and a ridiculously fast read but the ultimate plus is that it is fun. On the technical level, Yahtzee has a gift for setting the pace that doesn't slow down throughout and even though most of the characters are either self-interested or assholes, you find them compelling enough to keep going just to see what is going to happen next. Definitely recommended for those of you who are kinda done with the zombie trend but like your post-apocalyptic fiction with a lot of humor mixed in.
This is a book about carnivorous jam taking over Brisbane. You're going to either love it or hate it. I picked it up because I enjoyed the author's "Zero Punctuation" game reviews back in the day. 3.5*

I think I really liked this story but it was a little overwhelmingly frantic feeling.
Travis wakes up one morning to find that a killer strawberry jam has taken over the city and that it will utterly consume those who it touches. This is, more than anything, a story rife with bad policies and middle management.
"Jam" has its engaging moments and its ingenious moves, but it's also based on stock, cliched characters (intentionally) which didn't do much for me. Neither did the ending, which felt a bit random.

Yahtzee Croshaw's Jam starts out with a simple, but interesting premise where Brisbane finds itself in a post-apocalyptic state courtesy of, well, jam. The story follows Travis who realizes that the jam in question is no laughing matter as his roommate, Frank, dies while wading into the sticky depths. Shortly after, Travis confides in Tim, Angela, and Don Sunderland from Mogworld-well, sort of-as they try to navigate a jam-devoured city.
Jam starts out strong. The comedy is spot-on with the dialogue and the action picks up quickly with characters who may know more than they're letting on. I found some of the jam survival tactics pretty neat and the denizens in the later buildings and malls had their own ways of surviving the jam-pocalypse.
Does drag out somewhat near the end, but still worth the read.

Had a few moments where I laughed out loud but I enjoy a lot of the authors other content. A lot of plot and character threads get cut off in unsatisfying ways. Read slightly too slow for my liking but at x1.5 it was just right.
The characters just felt really stupid. I deal with enough stupid people in the real world
