Intriguing and beautiful, if at times dully tedious. I suspect this book is more or less infinitely deep, and requires considerable patience to examine and, less so, to read. 3.5 stars.

A bit slow in the beginning, but once I got into it, I really enjoyed this book. It tells the story of a teenager on a ship to Canada from England. The ship sinks and he ends up on a rescue boat with a zebra, a tiger, and a hyena. Very well-written and engaging.

Extremely well written. I just found the subject matter upsetting.

One-of-a-kind story, beautifully written. I knew I needed this book after seeing the film. Depicting a young man’s spirituality as deeply personal and open to multiple religions sets it apart not only in literature but in the present-day psyche. And narrating a story of survival filled with beauty and pain, discovery and horror makes it a riveting read. Grateful that Martel used his platform to channel the unforgettable story of Pi Patel.

I love this book.
Authors need to stop insulting my intelligence though. Please don't explain why your book is thought provoking, it's like a comedian explaining his joke or a magician revealing his trick.
