I have never read a book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and thus you can safely assume that I am not a huge Sherlock fan when it comes to the books (athough I really do love the BBC series). So . . . I am sure there were a lot of things in this book that would be even more awesome if I understood and knew the background better. That being said, I really enjoyed it. It was fun going back and forth between Doyle and present day and looking for the lost diary. More like 3.5 stars.

Interesting, but somewhat predictable. Enjoyed it overall. The ending seemed rather rushed.

I was really looking forward to this one and was a little disappointed. I thought there would be a bigger mystery and it would be little more serious in tone. However, it was readable and I enjoyed learning a little more about Conan Doyle.

Elementary—this book is not. It gripped me from the first page 'til Graham Moore's final author's note. A must-read for fellow Sherlock, mystery, and/or historical fiction lovers. Plus, it's beautifully and cleverly written. Captivating but still easy to read and straightforward. I don't think I've highlighted as many phrases, quotes, and word choices in any other book I've read in recent years. He might as well be a poet.

With that said, this book is filled with Sherlock and classic mystery story spoilers. Do not read it if you don't want many of Sherlock cases (and a few Agatha Christie novels) spoiled.

Interesting, but it kind of petered out at the end for me.

This one was just ok. I really liked the mystery from during Conan Doyle's time, but not what Moore had a couple of the real historical people do (that there is no record of them doing for real.) And the modern mystery was just meh for me. The one thing that I did enjoy was all of the historically accurate things that were pulled into this story.

Always enjoy a fun mystery, this one had 2! good Sherlock story but it involved Arthur Conan Doyle as the sleuth and a modern-day sherlockian as the other sleuth. Good fun.
