Can I get my $13 back AND the hours it took to read this??

What's annoying is that this had the potential to be great. Why didn't they show Haven and him getting to know each other and talking more? Like, where was the romance? It wasn't there, only lust, so the ending just didn't make sense to me at all and when she told him I love you.. it seemed so fast. I mean even her getting over the trauma of what happened to her...? It was all just rushed and not enough time spent on these things it in my opinion.

The men all kinda sucked. I don't see what the appeal about Hardy is at all?? I honestly didn't really feel anything for any of the characters. It just fell so short on everything and was very disappointing.

Absolute rubbish. Don't waste your time on it.

This book might have been my favorite of the series -- Hardy Cades is smoking hot!!!

Good. But as much as I adore Hardy Cates, I liked Gage and Liberty's chemistry better.

5⭐️ I was going to say, I could read this series over and over again. But really I already have lol. This is my comfort series! Anytime I don’t feel like reading what’s on my TBR I can always turn to this series to scratch the itch. I finally listened to the audiobook, and I LOVED the performance of the narrator!

So I'm a massive fan of Kleypas' historicals. I love the dept she puts in her stories. The way she adds details in her work, whether that's texan oil drilling or victorian train roads, is always magnificent. Reading her excellent writing in a modern setting was a little bit strange at first but I loved it. Her skills stays the same no matter what time period.
And I like the characters she writes. Well... most of the time.
I just don't get why Kleypas writes this story about a woman thats been in an incredibly abusive relationship for YEARS, and then writes her an alpha love interest that's all gruff and demanding. The scene where he shames he for saying no actually made my blood boil. He literally tries to have sex with her in a public place-knowing how inexpirienced she is- and then gets mad when she says no. Yeah, he apologized but it still made me feel iffy.
I like how Haven stood up for herself but DAMN do I hate the love interest. On his own he is kind of a hot character, but what possessed Kleypas to think that he was the right character to pair Haven with?
Also a love interests that pays of victims of rape?? NAWRRR. Why was that point never resolved? It's briefly mentioned, he feels bad for doing it. BAM. Never mentioned again.
