SPOILERS!!!!!!!
I love Marni Mann's work ,but sometimes I feel as if she is unable to write a different story. When I first started to read this book I was eating it up and loved Macon and Brooklyn's relationship. I think the age gap element was weird in my opinion since like every girl she writes is always a senior in college and then starts working at their company. Like ma'am love you ,but please let her have her own career or something outside of the guy. One thing I did like was the whole she was a maid at the hotel secret. Though I do think she should have told him earlier his reaction was entirely outta pocket. That whole scene infuriated me more so because he was hiding an even worse secret from her. This man had everything and the audacity. Then when she did find out we were robbed of her cussing him out. Like I was waiting for that scene and if I had that scene this probably would have been a 4 or 4.5 read. I swear I think every time I pick up one of her books i'm going to like it and every time its meh. I hate to be this rude about it ,but girly please change it up I beg of you. Even the smallest change up would have done wonders for this book or any of her books. Needless to say I will probably read more of her books because the spice kinda devours and while the tropes are repetitive and I complain about it I eat it up every time.

another marni mann series, another band of brothers with different dynamics between old characters and new. she does it like no other, this continuos timeline combining together both families and groups of friends, but it always feels fresh. yes, all these books follow the same formula but they're never repetitive. yes, i know what to expect from her - delicious banter, scorching tension - and it never fails to bring a smile to my face the entire time i read. i especially liked this one because jo is probably my favorite fmc of hers, and she had a big role in this book; all the parallels to her own story made it all the more special.

4.5⭐️! For some reason I had crazy anxiety reading this that the other shoe was going to drop, but luckily the conflict was quickly resolved and Macon was DOWN BAD for Brooklyn. My first book by this author and I’ll definitely check out more!

I received an ARC of The Playboy in exchange for an honest review.

I have read several books on Marni Mann's backlist and I enjoyed them, after seeing Macon in them I was very curious about this one!

We have Macon who got his heart broken in college and from that day on decided he wasn't going to form any sort of romantic attachment again. We start the book with him several years later deep into his playboy era. Almost all of his guy friends have settled down and he is the last single one. They are in Hawaii on a trip for Camden's bachelor weekend when he sees Brooklynn at a club. I honestly think it was love at first sight.

He was VERY persuasive and persistent. He went back to the club every night until she finally gave him her number. Brooklynn is a struggling college student, that is in her final semester of business school. She finds out that he is a hotel tycoon and decides to not tell him that she is a maid. Their relationship only becomes stronger throughout the book but she still doesn't tell him.

Macon sees something in Brooklynn and thinks she would be great for Spade hotels so he sets up an interview for her and leaves out that he would be her manager. By the end of the book, they both are in LA working together and still dating. They had some small hiccups along the way but ultimately worked things out.

Overall, I enjoyed this one, butttt it was so low angst that the plot almost just didn't interest me. Like the plot felt pretty bland and didn't have a ton going for it. I am still planning on reading the other books because I want to see who each spade brother ends up with but this one sort of fell through for me.

When you can tame the infamous playboy who will not take no for an answer....you know it's true love! The angst in this book is amazing!

Marni Mann has become a favourite author of mine. If you want something sweet with a lot of spice then she's your girl.
Saying that this has to be my least favourite book of hers. I can't quite put my finger on why though. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were good, the story isn't bad and I enjoyed the characters. I just didn't love it.
I felt like Macon's character was a bit of a quick change one as at the beginning of the story he gets cheated on and then doesn't want a relationship (hence The Playboy title) but as soon as he sees Brooklyn he does everything he can to win her over.
Overall I enjoyed the story and can't wait to read more from this series and author.
