I read this tender, troubling, complex, engaging novel and it wedged into the folds of my brain and wouldn’t shake out. Then the world shut down and a plague worked it’s way into our lives. All I could think about was this book. Weirdly, it helped to see how the protagonist handled her situation; her trials and troubles.

severance had me invested in the story from the first page. its a really interesting idea with a good execution. there were some small flaws – weird writing sometimes and an underwhelming ending. the world also was a little underdeveloped but i understand how it made the story more focused on the main character, which seemed to be the point.

For me, this book fell flat a lot of the time for me. While it had moments where I was heavily invested, I felt like the story meandered around a lot of the time. I enjoyed the metaphorical and speculative aspects of the book but ultimately I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped.
