Heiress Caroline Dixon is a hot mess. Her life and alcoholic antics provide plenty of fodder for the tabloids, but also hide a troubled and vulnerable young woman. Two people from her past are sufficiently concerned by what they read to reach out to her and help her in recovery.

I like Lorna Landvik's writing. What I remember most about the books by her that I've read is the way she draws her characters. They are unique and colorful, and find themselves in outrageous situations, yet behave normally.

This novel is a bit of a departure because it's written in an epistolary format, and as a result it takes a while to figure out how these characters interact with one another. Eventually, however, Landvik gives us all the puzzle pieces and we are able to fit them together. I knew there would be a romance but it wasn't what I initially (or secondly) expected.

This is a nice, fast, holiday read that reminds us to be kinder to one another.

A cute, short story told in a series of emails about forgiveness and moving on.

Delightful short novel about making amends and starting over. Told through emails and letters, this is perfectly what I love about Landvik’s writing - dry humor, down home feel with a Scandinavian touch. It’s not all that much about Christmas so is definitely one that can be enjoyed year round.

2.5 stars. This quick book is a pleasant enough holiday story. Told completely through letters (emails, newspaper columns, phone messages) this is the story of a poor little rich girl who, although a super beeyotch at the beginning, learns to be a better person. Meaningful Christmas message, blah, blah, blah.

I like to read a holiday book or two this time of year, to get in a tinsel and gaudy ribbon mood. This one did it for me.

And Lorna Landvik hails from Minnesota, so she's just about local and I like to support that. (Usually)

When I checked this book out, I had no idea it was oneo f those annoying books told through correspondence (letters, emails, etc). I'm not a fan...I always feel like I'm missing part of the story. Despite the format, it's a cute story about finding yourself.

Written as e-mails, this is a quick and easy read. Not near as good as her other novels, but not bad while you are sitting in the doctor's office.

If someone was new to reading Lorna Landvik's writing, I would not advise starting with this one. It was an extremely fast read (2 hours max one night), but I didn't feel the depth of character development and the emotional connection to the characters that I usually get in her novels. This reads more like one of those "holiday themed" genre fiction titles trotted out periodically by well-know writers -- like it was written quickly to capitalize on a market, not to tell a great story -- a.k.a., it seemed very fluffy. I did appreciate the storyline of the rich young woman who was famous basically for being famous -- this is definitely very current -- but overall I was a little disappointed.

I just read this book in 2.5 hours. I believe I have set a new record for myself. This was a really cute, festive book, that I'm glad I picked up. It's written as a series of letters and emails, which I am finding lately that I love in books! So that's why it was such a quick read. Very entertaining and charming!
