There is just no universe in which I read the next book of the series. I understand how some people love this book, but it's just not for me - I don't know how to express how I feel about this book except to say that it made me feel bad on the inside. Which, of course, is a piece of Larsson's goal here. He did not shy away from making people uncomfortable - in fact, his journalism career was intentionally marked by controversy. He cared only to uncover a piece of this world's true nature. His overall sentiment - that Sweden places corporate success above female life - is well-communicated, but I read for escapism so ultimately just not a match. Gory. Sad. Gross. Lots of SA. Graphic. Bloody. Unsatisfying. Super well written. That's all.

He became my favorite author and it is my favorite book!
A little tough to get into, but I was listening to the audio book which may have made it easier to get past the beginning. The story draws you in and makes you wonder where it is drawing to you. A bit disturbing though. Not sure I can bring myself to listen to the second story in the set. I probably read it eventually as I let my curiousity of where Lisbeth goes next.

Everyone likes this book but me. I remember being put off by something and thus didn't finish, but maybe I'll give it another shot sometime. (I do the same thing with tea. I hate tea, but everyone makes it sound so good, I keep trying it. *shudder*)

Oof. If you're looking for a brutal crime-thriller that pulls no punches, look no further. While very good and well-plotted, there is a lot (a LOT) of disturbing subject matter, and there is a very good reason that the original Swedish title was "Men Who Hate Women."
If you can get past all that, it's a cleverly plotted and intriguing story that will keep you interested right until the end.
(Personal side quibble; Blomkvist clearly has to be hot AF, seeing how EVERY NAMED WOMAN IN THE STORY (just about) tries to get into bed with him at some point, even if they're half his age. Like, seriously?)

Took a while to hit full steam, but rewarding. Great characters and a great modern twist on the old locked-room mystery.
