I’ve had a serious love/ hate relationship with this book the whole time I was reading it. I was looking for some angst for my next read and wow did I ever find it!! I mean, my gosh

So damn repetitive

For me, normally when I hate every single character with the exception of two (count ‘em) TWO CHARACTERS, I hate the book. But this was simply not the case for Magnolia Parks!

There were genuinely 2 (i could even argue one) likable characters in this book: Tom England and Bridgit (could argue she is enabler for still standing by BJ through everything).

I will admit, I was wildly bored and un-entertained by the first 100-200 pages of this. It moved soooo slowly and there wasn’t much new info being provided other than that:

1. BJ is a literal slut with the intention of telling everyone that he’s a slut so it hurts his ex girlfriend that he cheated on.

and

2. Magnolia is an ~emotional~ slut with the intention of telling everyone she’s an emotional slut so it hurts her ex boyfriend who she resents for cheating on her.

It’s very strange because for this entire section of the book they act like what Magnolia is doing (spending time with other men because that is allowed because her and BJ are not together) is as bad as BJ LITERALLY CHEATING ON HER AND THEN RUBBING IT IN HER FACE EVERY TIME HE HAS SEX WITH ANOTHER WOMAN AFTER THEY BREAK UP. THAT’S THE FIRST 200 PAGES OF THE BOOK. ALMOST UNBEARABLE. I ALMOST DNF’ED BECAUSE OF THAT! Until….

Honestly, one of the worst books I've ever had the displeasure of reading. Skip this terrible attempt at Gossip Girl fan fiction. Every character was annoying, and the plot kept repeating itself. Why are we having the same argument every three chapters? Why must we be subjected to constant reminders of how rich everyone is? We know. The assumption that the audience is dumb is overwhelming. The book's biggest sin is the fact that it isn't fun. Why write a book with this premise, yet fail to make it enjoyable in the slightest? Gossip Girl and similar media are satisfying because they feed our worst impulses and are fun to consume; they're likened to candy or guilty pleasures for a reason. This was neither. Read something else.
