Completely different than any other fae book I’ve read. If you’re reading this review and have finished this book…. What does the Obeah look like? I envisioned a black lion with horns… is that right?

The plot was perfection. Love the insane amounts of character diversity. Writing was a bit rushed and not as enjoyable as other fantasy books.

this formula is just not going to work for me. there is a tone, writing style, and logic (or lack there of) that i don't enjoy. this didn't feel enough fantasy or enough romance to be either alone. I liked the concepts of the lore and wanted to like it more but it felt underdeveloped despite being mentioned often. it is the first in a series, so that could be expanded upon if you decided to read and continue.

Partly because I ran out of listening time on Spotify, but also just got bored and not that fussed about finishing it. Only had 10 mins left anyway.

Loved this book, I really enjoyed piecing together the clues and trying to figure out what was happening and there were a few twists and turns I didn't see coming. Really enjoyed it, I can not wait for the next one!

I wanted to like this book so badly. Battle Drum is one of my favorite series so I was excited to get a new world from this author. But reading this book was like pulling teeth for me. The dialog was so awkward and the internal monologues were silly.

The concept is different and El-Arifi knocked it out of the park again with the most unique magic system. But other than that it just didn’t hit.

"In the beginning there were three gods."

Don't remember why but I liked it. It could because it felt like an ascaoe from work.
