Tbh the supposed to be heroine is kind of... meh. She kind of always did what everyone told her. I'm sorry I just can't stand it.

Just ehh about this one.
I'm left feeling as though I were snorkeling, only able to view so much of the ocean when I know there are vast reaches still left to explore. I would have loved to see more time spent on world building and background on the Grisha. There was opportunity written in and I thought 'oh, here is where we will get to find out xyz' but I was left still wanting.
I'm hopeful that subsequent books will fill in some of the holes and answer my questions, but I don't find myself excited to read the next one.

I could not get enough of this book. I did not want to put this down because it turned out to go in a completely different direction than I thought and I loved that it was not predictable. Going to continue with this series because I so need more of these characters now. I need to know what happens. The ending of the first book just left me wanting more.

I could not put this book down! The evolution of Alina fascinated me. I love the strength of her character but also her weakness, wanting to belong. I love that the theme of this book hints at the root of human nature, how far we go to belong. Thought provoking!

Alina and Mal... 😍 Need I say more! My favorite quote is from Mal, "I've risked my life for you. I've walked half the length of Ravka for you, and I'd do it again and again and again just to be with you, just to starve with you and freeze with you and hear you complain about hard cheese every day." 😂

I'm looking forward to Siege and Storm. I want to know what happened to the Darkling.

where do i even begin? i. am. in. love. with. this. book.
it definitely wasn't perfect and it had it flaws but still this book was AMAZING, i can't remember the last time i read a book and there wasn't a single moment that i got bored.
some of the problems i had with this book was the main character, i don't like her that much BUT i think i will grow to like her. next is the world, there wasn't much world building in this book which i usually don't mind and for the most part i didn't but the fold/unsea was very unclear to me.
all that aside this was an amazing fantasy novel and i will be recommending it to friends.
FINAL RATING: 4.5/5
