Anne Bishops books are the ultimate comfort fantasy books for me.
This one was good. At first, I didn't like the "spooky" house concept, it felt silly to me. But reading the twists and turns of the not real spooky house captured my attention cyclone Lucivers character development in this one.
Overall couldn't put it down.

The well thought out characters saved this book. All the main characters we love from the trilogy are in this book but the idea seems very contrived. I like the idea of a person realising they are Blood late in life. I even like the idea of that same person being angry at being abandoned and pushed aside. I do not understand why he is such a pathetic character. While Jarvis would be ill informed about the Blood, he is still a writer. Writers do a lot of research so I feel like this missed the mark.

So not terrible but not great either.

This kind of felt like reading a fanfic to me (and don't get me wrong; that's not a criticism. I love fanfic.). There was a lot of focus on the relationships between the characters and dealing with emotional issues from the past. There was also a great deal of fanservice, as the author showed us all the ways that her characters are awesome. (Especially Lucivar, I would say, but then again, I'm completely biased.) Yeah, there was a plot, and it was important, but it wasn't on the level of the original trilogy. Mostly, I felt like this was a wonderful chance to catch up with the characters that I love and bask once again in just how cool they really are. :D

This is a great in between book but also very tense and scary in parts. Surreal and Rainier get stuck in a haunted house Jaenelle has made to entertain children. Fantastic series absolutely love this world that Ann Bishop has created.
The books in this series is very graphic and this book especially is very upsetting definitely has triggers.

Lovely story that continues with the Dark Jewel story line after Witch has been restored to health. Loved Surreal being the main focus but the other characters were present too.

Every time I pick up one of her books I lose sleep. Why? Because I can't put it down!! Amazing. I need to have more of these books.
