This is one of those books that I have to admit I'm just too damn old for.

Nina is a young, cute 20-something who is coping with some family trauma - her mom dies when she's just a teenager, her dad is an unsupportive alcoholic, she feels abandoned by her sister. Though she's graduated from high school her family still makes her out to be the family screw up, calling her "crazy baby," the nickname she never quite shook off. She's got a part gig as a bartender but hates living with her sister and wants to break out on her own.

One night Nina's sister, Marissa, is abducted by a giant, magical beast and Nina is forced to acknowledge that her inclinations towards magic are more than than just intuition, it's her destiny.

If you sensed sarcasm in that last sentence, you're reading it correctly.

Nina grated on my nerves throughout this entire book. She's meant to be read as a tormented soul, someone who has lost direction in her life due to trauma. But I just wanted to smack her.

i don’t even know where to begin with this. everything was amazing. yeah, it was a little rushed but... it’s meant to be a whirlwind.

this comic series is probably the most beautiful thing my eyes every witnessed. the art is so beautiful. i cannot stress how much the color palette and the art style fit this.

the plot was also very good. i’m kinda new to this subject matter so i can’t really speak on originality but i can say i’ve never read anything like this.

the way the sixth issue ended leads me to believe this story is about to get so much bigger and i honestly can’t wait. it seems like it’s going to be very intense but well written. i can’t wait to continue this.

I read this one on a whim because it was on Hoopla and the cover is just too gorgeous and I’m glad I did. The story follows Nina whose life changed after she saw a giant magical beast kidnap her sister, despite the fact that she’s not supposed to remember this. We soon dive into a fantastic “underground” world of magic. I don’t want to give too much away but I will definitely be picking up the second volume when it comes out. I’d recommend this one to fans of The Wicked + The Divine.

Very pretty! Slightly disjointed storytelling, but fun regardless. Will check out the next volume.

This volume was STUNNING!!! I loved going on this adventure. The characters were flawed and relatable. The story was compelling all the way through. I cannot wait to get my hands on Vol. 2!

Meh. That's how I feel about the storyline and the characters. So underwhelming. Did I miss something?

But the artwork is gorgeous. That was my favorite piece. Stunning art.

Delightfully strange
Loved the art style
Bits of it reminded me of Monstress only it's less dark.
The cat is the best character.
