It was an ok read. I wish more of the magic system had been explained and things weren't so rushed because it made it very confusing.
If I'm being honest, I had no idea what the plot of this was and only picked it up because the cover is absolutely gorgeous as is the artwork on the inside.

I’m on the fence here, and I could go either way. On the one hand, the illustrations are eye-catching, but suffering a little headache and eye strain tonight, the vibrant colors were almost a little much to focus on.
The plot was frustrating. It has potential, but it felt like just a lot of angry family fights. Everyone was just dodging basic questions for absolutely no good reason. It felt like poor communication was the only real conflict.
I may or may not bother giving it another shot. Time will tell.

Jen Bartel's artwork is genuinely stunning (as always) and kept me going through this volume, but just barely. Although there is an interesting story in there somewhere, the writing (especially the dialogue) is just so poorly written that the entire thing falls flat.
Beautiful illustrations. A girl has a tragic start in life but it turns out there’s more magical politics in the world than it at first seems. Everyone is unreasonably thin and beautiful. Interested to see where this all goes.
