Very nice retelling, and, upon research, I found it is also very faithful to the original version of the story, which I really appreciate about retellings like this. The growth of the hero is seen clearly throughout the book, and actions and motivations are clear and understandable. I soooo craved for more of the story between Geric and Isi to be elaborated though :(
Nonetheless, I finished the book feeling very happy with the world, and looking forward to Enna Burning, which comes next. :)

This was a very fun book. I loved the description - the imagery was compelling and the story line was created perfectly. I am planning on working through the rest of the series, but if I like the rest as much as I enjoyed the first, I anticipate it will be a series added to my personal library.

Made me fall in love with stories all over again. Made me both want to read and write a whole lot more. I was stuck in a year-long writing block when I felt my writing style wasn't what I wanted it to be anymore/hadn't grown up with me into my twenties in a way and this book singlehandedly pulled me out of that. I remember starting it as an audiobook but immediately after the first chapter ordering a physical copy because I just wanted to experience the prose...?? with my eyes ?? I guess.

I really enjoyed this! While I found parts of this to book to be incredibly predictable, it was still very enjoyable overall. I’m excited to see what the rest of this series has to offer.

i love fairy tales. Especially this one. I loved that Ani didn't get her crown the old fashioned way. And that she had to realize who she was first. I am really excited to get to start the next one.
