A haunted house story with some big reveals and a great ambiguous ending. This is my second book from Malfi and he slaps hard. I definitely want to read more by him.

Not my favorite by this author but it did have a creepy feel and a good story.

Ronald Malfi is an author not to be missed. While perhaps not as heart stopping as some of his other works, this one deliver an intricate, chilling supernatural mystery.
Following Laurie as she returns to her childhood home after the death of her estranged father, she begins to find out that the past doesn't always stay buried no matter how hard you try.
With paranormal elements, spirits and ghosts this one feels much more supernatural than some of his previous works I've read. I enjoyed the twisty, mystery elements as you follow along with the characters as they uncover the truth. I did guess some of the things before they happened but I was still horrified reading it.

I don’t know why it surprises me because it literally happens in every type of scary book that includes a haunted house however, it always gets to me when it comes to the point of the novel where someone suggests they leave and if they had just listened then the book could’ve ended right then and there and I hit that point in this book now where the main character is worried about her daughter safety and yet still decides not to leave because and I quote there are unfinished things she still needs to do I feel like it’s such a stupid excuse to stay at in real life there is nothing that would keep me in a situation that would endanger my child simply for my need to solve a mystery that happened years ago.

I felt like it was trying to do way too many things. It was about a child predator and then it was about ghosts and then there was a cheating husband and the murderous nurse, and there were a lot of plot twist that didn’t really make sense and the ending was way to open ended to be considered a cliffhanger and instead just kind of pissed me off.

I did not like the ending because you don't know what really happened at the end. But overall I enjoyed the book

I like that you get to debate whether
the "haunting" is all in Laurie's heat as a result of her declining mental state or true paranormal experience
but it feels like there's a lot of build up for a rushed ending that feels a bit jumbled.
