Heartbreaking. Beautiful. But heartbreaking.
I'm so glad I didn't read this book 2 years ago when I started it because I wouldn't have loved it as much as I do now.
I read many negative reviews and I get why some people don't like it.
I always knew how this book would end because I got spoiled, so I enjoyed every. single. moment between Violet and Finch. Their story was perfect, they were cute, and hot, and made for each other. Finch was exactly the boy I want to have in my life, funny, crazy, intelligent, poetic, understanding, lovely. And even if he had his sad thoughts and dark parts, he was still perfect.
"I feel jealous, just for a second, of his brain. In this moment, mine feels so ordinary." - Violet
SAME
He gives the most beautiful, intelligent, unique, lovely compliments and that is one of the best things about him.
I love the quotes in this book.
"The story of a girl who learns to live from a boy who wants to die." - that's just heartbreaking. He seemed to be living life to it's fullest, the one person who aced living.
I love their wandering, I love how he left little things for her in the remaining places, I love his last letter to Violet, I love how he wanted to be nothing more than the Theodore Finch Violet Markey loves, I love the nickname he made for her, I love how he saved her, yet he wasn't saved in the end.
And even when I thought I can't be more heartbroken, I read the acknowledgements, which I wouldn't have read 2 years ago.. and the fact that this was partially the author's story made me cry even more.
And what I loved the most.. were the little things. How Violet wrote an epitaph for him, saying in one way or another that he was loved, how he wrote "Violet is life", that being a reference to the group he was at, how he laughed when she said she didn't like him, how he was so scared to touch her when she was angry, how he made sure his friends and family knew what he thought of them before leaving them for good, how she called "Marco"..
And he died, looking for the bottom of the Blue Hole.. but he didn't die. He's just wandering - this time, in another world, because our world was to little for someone like him.

I think that everyone should read this book, live this story with the characters, cry, laugh, and adore Theodore Finch.
This is now one of my favorites. I could talk about it for hours.

I’ll give this a 3.5 stars. It took awhile for me to get interested and when I did I liked the story. And the ending killed me, not how I wanted it to be.

I liked the way this was written, and the emotion in it. I was able to really get to know the characters, what made them think and act.

This one is hard-hitting and nothing like the fluffy, romantic cover implies. I think it kind of glorifies suicide and also what extremely suicidal person would take the effort to make an entire scavenger hunt for their girlfriend before they kill themselves??
