In The Weeds is the second book in the Lovelight series, a series I have been anticipating and enjoying since I read Lovelight Farms a couple of months ago. This once captured me as much as Lovelight Farms did and more!

This time we followed Beckett Porter, farmer at Lovelight Farms and quiet animal lover who doesn't like the attention he gets from the town and Evelynn St. James a social media influencer who is finding herself quite overwhelmed with her life looking to find something more calm and brings her more joy. Their romance and rekindling in this book was so sweet and tender seeing them try to navigate their feelings for one another after a less than ideal ending to an encounter at the bar. It was so wonderful that they were both able to find their happiness in each other rather then in just what they did.

Learning more about Beckett, his family which I adored how they supported him and each other. Why he was so quiet and kept to himself which he explained it was because of having a social disorder that caused him to be bothered by loud noise or too many crowds of people. Evelynn even had her own need to manage everything and overachieving tendencies to work through, it made them feel more like people and not just characters. I also loved how Beckett showed such care for animals that he was willing to take care of them in his own home when they needed it.

While I know for some that the miscommunication by the end does bother some people, I felt it necessary for Beckett and Evelynn to be able to communicate and Beckett to work through his issues with it. I enjoyed my time with this book, the romance was precious, the town itself once again a great setting, and the story about finding your true happiness made this book another five star for the series! I can't wait to move on to Mixed Signals soon!

I enjoy this author’s writing style and these characters, but I had such a hard time reading this book at first. These characters were very lusty (they started as a one night stand turned multiple nights, and the characters kept looking back on that hook up) and it often felt like there wasn’t a lot in their relationship besides the lust. I really liked both characters but it took a long time for the characters to get past just revisiting the past dalliances in their memories. I appreciated Beckett’s struggle with social anxiety/overstimulation and Evelyn’s efforts to find herself, but their utter lack of communication as their relationship evolved (especially at the end of the book) was so infuriating. This book maintains the small town feel of the first which I enjoyed. While I love these characters, I didn’t love them together as they were figuring stuff out, especially with how dense they were when loved ones gave them great advice and then they just shut down 😑 they both really suck at relationships. So it was nice to have the epilogue and bonus chapter to put their stable relationship into more context after all the communication/expectation issues resolved themselves.

Genre: Contemporary romance, fiction
My summary: Evelyn St. James is a popular social media influencer who has realized she’s lost her spark. In pursuit of happiness, she returns to the last place she felt whole—at Lovelight Farms with Beckett Porter, the big-hearted farmer. Evelyn and Beckett first met and had a one night stand—out of character for both of them—and have awkwardly tried to find their way together since then.
My thoughts: This is the definition of a contemporary romance with lovable characters that makes you feel warm and cozy while you’re reading it. I fell in love with both Beckett and Evelyn in Lovelight Farms, so it was fun to read their book as the second in the series. It’s fun and witty, you can’t help but root for love to win in the end.

such a great addition to the series!!! this one had me wanting to just break down crying at several moments. i related to evie in many ways & honestly her inner monologue made me the most teary eyed. “did you find your happy?” HOW COULD YOU B.K.????? my heart is still feeling the ramifications of having to listen to beckett ask evie that question. SO GOOD!!! i’m super excited to continue this series!
