Whew. A good solid overview of what trauma can do to the brain, and a reminder to be patient with folks because we don't know their stories. Also, there are so many social cues that we just pick up from other people, and it's perfectly reasonable that not everyone has picked up the same ones. We need to not shame anyone for questioning them or still learning about them.

I tend to steer clear of hyped books, but every now and then there is one that lives up to its rave reviews. This is one of them. It's a bit predictible sometimes, but I don't really care because the execution is so perfect. This book is fantastically well-written; I even picked up a few new words. The descriptions of loneliness are spot on. Itis funny and sad and hopeful in turns. And for those who've read Jane Eyre and/or Sense and Sensibility, it also offers a game of "spot the references".
