This took me a bit to get into initially as I could not see how I, or anyone, could relate to such a character. But as we get to know her better I grew to like her, as she too begins to like herself. From that perspective I saw that it can be relatable and it ended up to be an entertaining and uplifting read.

I don’t typically love books where the plot is centered so much around character development, but this one had me hooked!
I loved getting to know Eleanor, her social awkwardness or unknowings had me giggling. Although present, I loved that the romance, childhood trauma and suicidal themes were not the highlight of this novel. I found Eleanor relatable as result, going along with the day to day life helped me to come along with her.
Although I was not quite ready for some of the heavier aspects of this book, the way the author detailed Eleanor’s childhood and the long-term impact of that had me glued to the book!

I struggled slightly to get hooked on this book initially. All I can say is this is absolutely worth sticking with, and if you find Eleanor difficult to stand at first,  please do give her a chance.

The character development was poignant and focused on the emotional journey of self-improvement. I greatly enjoyed the high level of vocabulary used—I found myself looking up definitions despite normally knowing every word in books! Eleanor’s relationships with other characters is amusing and touching as you watch her come into her own individual.

This book is hilarious, charming and extremely sad all at the same time. It deals with some very dark themes but is also filled with humanity. The portrayal of loneliness is so on the nose that it hit something deep within me and made me cry. I almost never re-read books but I find myself wanting to do that with this one. Highly recommended!
