Eleanor Oliphant is completely lovable and hilarious. Her story is so sad and I found myself desperately wanting to be her friend! Some of her social faux pas were entirely relatable, which endeared me to her character. I also loved Raymond and his mum, and Sammy. Such lovable characters. Such an engaging story. I’m so glad the author decided to speak on the subject of loneliness, which is a major problem ironically in our overly populated world. This book gave me so much joy and hope. Well done!

i found this book really hard to get into at first but especially in the second half the pace really picked up and i found myself a lot more absorbed in it.
it genuinely is a good book, eleanor is funny and there is a good balance of humour and tenseness/sadness of the book and the story is written well to reflect a character with severe trauma and how she processes this as the story goes along.
and omg the plot twist

Raymond is the only good man

on a serious note, it was nice to see someone get better.

I took one of my hands in the other, tried to imagine what it would feel like if it was another person’s hand holding mine. There have been times when I felt that I might die of loneliness. People sometimes say they might die of boredom, that they’re dying for a cup of tea, but for me, dying of loneliness is not hyperbole. When I feel like that, my head drops and my shoulders slump and I ache, I physically ache, for human contact—I truly feel that I might tumble to the ground and pass away if someone doesn’t hold me, touch me.

+ parts of the storyline & characteristics were relatable for me personally

- the wrap text describes a mere slice of what the story is actually about
- sometimes the main character reads social cues perfecrly fine and somethimes she doesn’t get them at all. big inconsistency there.
- too long

The book surprised me in how it just flowed so effortlessly. It was a really enjoyable read for the writing style, the humour, while being very brutal at times.
I loved that the friendship between Eleanor and Raymond remained just that. At least I appreciate that it’s up for interpretation in the end, instead of it being an obvious and direct choice by the author (which would have felt inauthentic in my opinion as a means to just put a nice bow on the story)
