In het begin dacht ik dat ik Eleanor verschrikkelijk zou vinden om zo lang over te lezen, maar nu ik het uit heb ben ik van haar gaan houden en mis ik haar nu al 🥲

Ook dacht ik in het begin; wat saai, waarom lees ik dit eigenlijk, maar al snel werd ik toch nieuwsgierig naar waar het boek naartoe wilde gaan en echt al mijn hoop werd beantwoord! Wat een lekkere 'ride' om te nemen, het verhaal in dit boek. Heerlijk ♥️

All the content warning things are either used in a beautifull and thoughtfull way to tell an honest story ór they are redeemed at the end (like the fatphobia and bodyshaming)... to me it seems like the author is not a bad person / only using terrible things for shock value 😊

This book is billed as comedy. Fucking where? Is it the parts where Eleanor is horribly rude to service workers? Because that's not funny, it's infuriating. It's written to be infuriating. I have no idea where Penguin gets off billing this as a comedy.

It was a necessary book for me though. It deals with abuse, the cycles thereof, and healing. I cried, and thanked the book for making me cry. I hate this book as much as I love it.

It makes me feel a whole lot, so it must be good. It mostly made me feel like throwing the book at the wall, though.

So the main plot twist is

Eleanor's mother died trying to kill Eleanor and successfully killing Eleanor's baby sister Maryanne, and her phone calls are hallucinations.

Such a funny comedy Penguin! Eleanor is slowly revealed to have more and more self esteem and self abuse issues as the book goes on, to the point that it should be funny but is just sad. Please exercise caution when reading.
