I am happy to say that I enjoyed this book more than king of scars, mainly because it had more action in it. The previous was more of a build up to the grand finale which is this book. While it took me a bit to get through I really loved it. We are introduced to more character povs and I always find it fascinating to see what each character is feeling about a similar situation. I particularly enjoyed Nina’s pov and plot as it had a lot of action and her emotions were very well laid out. However I do feel the romance in her plot was not very well built up.
In Nikolai and Zoya’s pov it tackles the issue of nuclear weapons and how they would just grow and grow uncontrollably once invented which I found very thought provoking. Overall it was an amazing book and I can’t wait for the next.

The first 60% was very slow. The last 40% was interesting and picked up. I'm really pleased that the Six of Crows cast made an appearance.

The Shu queens/Mayu storyline didn't have to be in there. "The Monk" also had too many POV chapters for my liking.

This was probably my least favourite book of the series. I’m not sure completely why - it was a lot of politics, a lot of war, too many POVs, some extremely questionable choices that felt like they existed only to suddenly drive the plot and hurt the reader, rather than as a genuine twist. I made it through because I love the characters - but this isn’t a book you can pick up and love without already being heavily invested.
