Was really slow to start off with, but kept reading because the guy who gave it to me told me it was his favourite book. It was alright, but i was not expecting incest???? INCEST??? and it felt like the author was just throwing things at you and expecting you to catch them. The first half of the book i wasn't convinced, but i thought it could redeem itself. Then it all went downhill. Didn't like the main character or the best friend, i loved the girlfriend but she wasn't a continuous character and was only around for a little bit, and i thought the plot was unbelievable. I have however read plenty of books similar to this, with purposefully unlikeable characters and intense friendships and dramatic events, and very much enjoyed them. I think the thing that i disliked the most was the writing style. It was too overly casual, there was foreshadowing every other sentence, and the narrator would do this thing where something dramatic would happen and then a new line would start and it always said
excuse me?
and then kept going after. You can see how that would get annoying.
