I literally read this 2 weeks ago and cannot remember what happened. I disliked this one even more than divine rivals, which made me like book 1 even less because we didn’t get a satisfying conclusion. I was on my knees begging for some kind of plot twist like enva is actually the evil one and dacre is the misunderstood villain, but no. We barely get any romance in this one bc of Roman’s amnesia and the fact that they’re separated for 90% of the book. Idk what the point of getting them married was.
We did finally get some answers to the gods’ backstory and a little bit of magic system explanation but not much. I wish I would’ve DNFed but I wanted to give it a fair shot. I’m glad I rented this from my library so I didn’t waste money on this series. Unfortunately the audiobook was bad again, but only bc the writing is so boring, it seems like the narrators are just reading instead of performing. I really disliked the ending and how all the action played out. I stand by what I said about this series being better as historical fiction instead of fantasy, bc there’s barely any fantasy in if you take the gods out. Overall, I did not like the series and it was a struggle to get through, and obviously won’t be rereading.

I did not want this to end. I needed more Iris and Roman. I needed more love letters full of longing and sweet words.
It is not a secret among those who love me that these past months have been a nightmare...and this book was my safe space during that time. The best moment of the day.
Probably it is not the perfect book, but it was the book I needed. I needed to scape to Oath, find myself in Iris and feel in love with journalism again (a career I studied but I could not find opportunities in the way I wanted). Old-fashion typewriters in hand, gathering stories, all mixed with magic.
Through Iris and Roman love story I had my heart pounding, wishing magic ley lines were real, waiting for the next letter.
I am a romantic, I am not going to lie. I wished for love letters of my own. But their love story serve me as a shelter for when stress and sadness was too much in my reality.
I also found that this story allowed me to find joy while also mirroring the desperation I was feeling in my real life. All mixed, all at the same time.
I wish I could explore Iris and Roman story further, as they have accompanied me in such hard times. It is hard to say goodbye.

I also love Attie and Tobias. And of course Marisol and Keegan, although i wish Marisol would have appeared more often.
I cried multiple times because this book hit hard, especially the ending.
Is keegan the new chancellor?? (I really hope so)
