it was nice! i feel like i didn’t really get it though?
i had a pretty good time reading it, i enjoyed the writing as well as the unique perspective of klara and especially liked the worldbuilding, but i just feel like there was something about it that just wasn’t really clicking with me. i found myself accidentally skipping around on the page a little more than usual, but generally i felt like i wasn’t grasping all of what made this book the freaking nobel prize winner.
idk exactly the vibe but it was a nice read but was lacking something for me.
also, i know the whole point of the book is that klara’s perspective and information is pretty limited, but i wish there was a little more explanation on some of the worldbuilding partially because i wanted to know more about it, but also because it felt like important parts were left very vague and unclear

*read for book club*

Kazuo Ishiguro is impeccable at what he does - but what he does is just not quite for me. This was my second novel of his and it was very similar in both tone and structure. Excellent, well-crafted books and I understand how they absolutely click for some people, but calculated detachment is still detachment and I tend to need that emotional connection to really care about a story. I'm glad I read this for book club, both because it has cemented for me that although I respect Ishiguro I really don't need to read anything more from him, and because I just know this will be a much more interesting book to discuss than it was to read.

Did not quite click with me, but I cant quite put my finger on why. I never felt like DNFing it but at times it did feel like a chore

SPOILER: So heartwarming to see that although Klara is an AF, she sacrificed herself for josie. Its also interesting to see a distopian world where AF are your companion. Kinda black mirror esque but with a sweet ending
