What a throwback to be reading Jacqueline Wilson again! I’m amazed how tactfully and playfully Wilson is able to discuss topics that can be really painful and difficult. Such a cute story!

This was like Love Frankie but from Sammy's point of view

It was quite sweet but again even though I'm not the target audience I still don't think this is one of her strongest books but still it was sweet enough and kept me quiet during my quest reading what I would've liked as a child ahah

Dont get me wrong, i have read other books of her, but this one... I really didnt like it.

Non-spoiler review
I think i got tricked by the cover. In the beggining i felt a little confused about what was happening. But, I never judge a book by its beggining, so i kept reading. As i kept going, i felt more overwhelmed about what was happening. Wasnt it obvious?! Anyway, i think that one star is enough.

Spoilery review
I dont have anything against gays. I actually support gay rights. But in here the whole gay thing was not great in this book. Maybe it was just not written right. I dont know. The protagonist was stubborn and she wanted the boy to herself and in the end she couldnt just see that he was kissing her, bc he was rejected before? The only reason i kept reading the book after the half, was because of Miranda. She was amazing.

Thats, my opinion and its okay if you dont agree

What happens when your BFF is the boy next door - the boy you're in love with - and that boy is in love with another boy at school?

Sylvie and Carl's Glassworld seems to rip-off Bridge to Terebithia and The Secret Language, but that's a minor complaint. Far more important is the way Sylvie grows up with her new friend, Miranda, and learns to accept change (like Mom dating). Carl's "secret" is handled sensitively, although I did wonder whether having his family (and Sylvie and Miranda) accept him as gay so easily was realistic. Paul's reaction felt far more honest.

A definite "to buy" for our GLBTQ-friendly collection.
