I hate rating books I loved in my childhood but I really love this book. It’s such a classic Jacqueline Wilson book, which tackles a delicate subject matter from a different POV.

yeah i’m like tearing up. it’s just so cute but i do wish that
Carl’s coming out was more explored and i feel like the book abruptly ends and fizzles out but it’s still enjoyable and heart warming

it was also kinda annoying
how long it took sylvie to put 2 and 2 together. i mean it’s expected i guess since she probably does not want anything to get in the way of the dream wedding she’s thought of since she was 7 but come on girl. i was metaphorically ripping my hair out at how oblivious she was and how long it took for carl to say it out loud

i love miranda, i aspire to have her confidence. i mean, she’s the type of character present in all jaqueline wilson novels but that doesn’t mean she’s any less admirable. she has a very surprising repertoire of knowledge about different glass ‘types’ and the brönte sisters

i keep forgetting that the characters are only in year 9 and are 13-14 years old. they act very mature (well, they either try to and some of them are not so mature); the stuff they were doing, i could see people my age doing. idk, i can’t remember what it was like when i was that age, but i don’t remember it being as ‘adult-themed’

i would totally fall for jake if i was slyvie. she’s missing out !!!

the plot was predictable but for me, that didn’t make it any less enjoyable

I loved this book and really enjoyed the plot but...What happens with her and jake i thought there wasnt enough coverage there okay i get carl is gay so she lost her love but come on jake reaalllly reallly like her i think this book like evryother jacqueline wilson book had a s*** ending. To be honest i felt it left alot of un answered questions so i still praying she will make a sequel even tho the chances of that are extremely low.

The one genre I can never pass up is the mafia, give me a bad guy and the woman who he falls for.

The chemistry between Fallon and Eva was evident from the beginning and only got better as we went on. Though I have to admit I rolled my eyes at the holding captive incident because it's been done to death.

I can't wait for the next book in the series, I need it now!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I read this book a few years ago when i was on holiday at the age of 14/15. I remember coming home every night to the cottage and running straight up the stairs to read a few more chapters. It was enchanting, the characters and plot were so realistic and the plot twist at the end was not at all expected. Brilliant overall!

Carl and Sylvie are neighbors and best friends. When they were little they would play together all the time; they even created their own world and kingdom for their make-believe adventures. Now that they are 14, they are still good friends but things are changing. Sylvie loves Carl and dreams of the day when he will kiss her - which he will inevitably do because they are going to get married some day! Well, that is what Sylvie believes anyway... Carl seems to have other ideas as he gets more involved with his new school and friend, Paul, who goes there.

***SPOILER*** ***SPOILER***

Carl is gay, but it takes Sylvie a really, really long time to figure that out. Realistic family reaction to the news.
Good choice for kids struggling with identity issues. Interesting characters, although plot is a bit predictable.
