A thrilling mystery with supernatural horror elements.
This book could've been a much darker horror novel, except the MC was such a cinnamon roll.
I enjoyed this unexpected facet as it added a softer emotional tone to the standard horror fare. While one might find themselves yelling at the MC to stop ignoring his instincts and run like hell, his motives for enduring all he does are both heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure. He's a genuinely good soul; a light to the darkness.
This was my first book by this author, but they've got me intrigued with their narrative style and I'm looking forward to reading more.

This is one of my favorite Darcy Coates to date. I thought Daniel, the main character, was so nice and kind. I instantly connected with him and wanted to befriend him.
There were some definite scary parts and not pleasant imagery, but much like The Haunted of Leigh Harker, I found myself attached to some of the spirits.
The ending left me all warm and fuzzy which is something you don't come by easily in this genre. Yet, I think that feeling is my favorite part about reading Darcy Coates. She has a real talent for making you connect with spirits and wanting the best for them, even in ominous settings.

Story was OK, but the main character was insufferable and every choice he made seemed so dumb.

Honestly not a terrible book. Cliche, quick, and more of a cozy horror. This is for when you need a break from real horror and want just a bit of spook in your life. Good for what it is, not good for a real horror. Overall, I liked it!
