A standalone middle grade fantasy from the author of the Aru Shah series featuring Filipino mythology. I've been wanting to read more of Roshani Chokshi's works only having dabbled with her short stories and this did not disappoint. I may have been feeling burnt out on reading so many books showcasing Filipino mythology (but also I hope there's even more) and there was a storyline that seemed to wrap up a bit too conveniently for my liking but I was practically cheering how good this book was by the end. I think the audiobook is worth it just to hear the character of Saso, the delusional power hungry gecko. (If I remember correctly, the physical and e-versions have an introduction by Rick Riordan and a glossary of Tagalog terms.)

Things I love:
SASO!!!!!!
THE HOUSE!!!!
I always always admire Roshani Chokshi's way of stitching the words. She made them alive. It's funny, sassy, beautifully written and the concept with the spirit glass is good. The Filipino's folktale comes to life🫶🏽🫶🏽
Middle graders out there will love this!!!
