It seemed really rushed and was pretty cheesy, but still cute and the art was really nice.
The pictures were beautiful and the story was pretty good. Mera is an awesome girl from the ocean and I liked seeing her backstory in this fashion. Plus how she meets Arthur (aka Aquaman) was pretty entertaining.
However, the story seemed a little choppy and some things didn't make sense. The scenes jumped around and I was confused over the fast paced ending. I don't know, maybe it's just me. But I did enjoy reading it.

I have just recently started reading graphic novels and I enjoyed this one. I am a big fan of retellings and this felt like a Little Mermaid retelling done very well. (Even though it is actually a DC comics origin story.) The illustrations helped the story along and seemed appropriate to the events happening.

This was a cute YA comic. The artist’s style is pretty cool!
3.5
The art is fabulous, just my kind thing. I just wish there was more to the story... it felt kinda shallow, rushed. This isn’t awful, it’s just not as awesome as I would have hoped

'Mera: Tidebreaker' by Danielle Paige with art by Stephen Bryne is an early story of how Mera and Aquaman become a couple.
Mera is a rebellious teenager of Xebel. She is also royalty. She doesn't want to marry the man her dad has picked out and she misses her deceased mother. When she does something that could spark a war, she decides the only way to make things right is to kill the heir to the throne of the Xebel's sworn enemy. Arthur Curry is that young man, but he doesn't even know he is from Atlantis. Mera has to find him on land, and finish the job, but she finds someone that is not as evil as she thought, and she finds her heart in conflict.
The story works as a teenager in love story, and I had to keep telling myself that. I like Mera as a character, but don't know a whole lot about her. This story makes her seem a bit more vulnerable, at least when she was younger. I am a pretty big fan of the art in this book. The colors are muted except for Mera's flaming hair. This works in panels she is in, but feels a bit dulled when she is offstage. It makes for a striking visual.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

So. I’ve not seen the movie Aquaman but I really enjoyed reading this graphic novel version about their origin story. I feel like my high school students who are into superheroes will love this book.
