If I had to describe this book as anything, I'd say it's "Good, bordering on great".

From the opening scene, I was intrigued by the character, the world, and everything going on. I LOVED the pixies that hang around Rie—a great use of humor in a mostly dark book.

Rie was a strong, competent character overall, skilled enough to be believable and neither a Mary Sue nor an overly emotional character. There were a few slip-ups with her character and personality traits (her insecurities were an unusual choice, and they came across too strongly for her personality), but overall she was very well-written.

The sequence of events felt a bit odd. At first it felt like a spy book, then it felt more like Drizzt's return to the Underdark, then it seemed like a book about a new recruit joining a mercenary/military group. I'd have to say it changed the overall tone of the story a bit too much.

But all in all, it was a great read, and I can't wait to pick up the second book in the series.

❝You were oppressed by a culture that devalues you, and told that you are no better than a servant to the High Elves that bought you like livestock. You haven’t had the opportunity to truly discover yourself.❞

So far, there’s nothing exceptional about this story, but I feel like Haskell has definitely laid the groundwork for it to evolve into something amazing; what with her diverse cast of characters and quality writing.

Received a copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only and providing a review voluntarily.

I picked this book to read as it’s fantasy/romance with action and fae and magic and realms. And it didn’t sound like the same plot of other current ro-fantasy out at the moment.
In fact the story line was great. The whole time I’m thinking there’s something more to Rie, but didn’t know what or why. She’s a great strong female lead but also likeable and real.
The pixies were my favourite characters.
However I didn’t feel as attached to the other male leads in this book. Maybe there wasn’t much character development or maybe I needed some chapters from their pov. Rie, the pixies and even Garran I was all rooting for. But just felt the others were glossed over slightly so when romance came it didn’t feel deep or real. But then again Rie also has doubts about the attraction too so maybe stealthy masterful story telling…?
Regardless the setting up for a great series. Recommended for romance fantasy and pixie lovers.

I received Sanyare: The Last Descendant in return for an honest review from the author. I just finished the prequel Pixie Tamer which is a little story about how Rie came to be in the company of Pixies. Trained by her warden to fight she can protect herself being a just human in an elf world. Working hard has earned her a job as a High Court messenger sending her between different realms. On a routine trip to the human Realm she’s attacked on the beach by assassins with the help of her pixies and new ability she survives the attack. However any encounters with the Shadow Realm instantly mark her as a traitor but Lord Garamaen has a plan to send her into the Shadow Realm to prove her innocents.

Knowing it’s her only chance to clear her name Rie heads off into the Shadow Realm fearing the worst after all the stories she’s been told. Her first encounter is into the Shadow Realm ends up with her walking into a blood bar where she’s the desired donor. After proving she’s not going to be thrilled Rie finds an unlikely friend who leads her to the Crossroad inn where she should be able to find some information. Instead she finds the prince and leader of the Shadow Guard who might just be able to help her find who ordered her assassination and what they are plotting.

I love Rie she’s a smart girl who was raising in a world that humans are treated as slaves but when she comes to the Shadow Realm she learns that maybe that’s not the only way. I wasn’t sure about Braegan at first but he grew on me as the book went. However I instantly saw Daenor as a perfect match for Rie which she may not have seen at first either. I loved the pixies and the imp they are perfect supporting characters who just enhanced the story.

I’ve had Sanyare: The Last Descendant on my to read pile for a while but haven’t gotten around to it till now and boy was I missing out. A fast paced action packed novel that mixes fantasy with the modern day world creating an intricate and captivating story. The characters are well developed it was easy for me to connect with Rie she’s defiantly stolen a piece of my heart. The writing style is well written it flows from start to finish captivating my imagination till the very end. I admit I would love to get a look at Turant in the flesh because he’s a combination of two of my favorite creatures and I’m curious if I got it all right. I honestly enjoyed every moment of the book it’s beautifully and I couldn’t put it down except when real life got in the way. I’m really hoping this isn’t the last of Rie because I’m not ready to say goodbye to her or her new friends. A truly perfect way to start off the new year with an amazing new book by a new author.

I enjoyed this book a great deal more than I thought I would. I was about to give up at around the 10% mark, and decided to give it just one more chapter to see how it went. Then some random lust interests appeared, and I adjusted my expectations to rote urban fantasy. Once I realised that's what I was reading, it became a lot more fun--and I've gotta say I loved the pixies.

Not the most inspiring book I've ever read, and not the most powerful writing. However, I'll be picking up the second book, because I'm a grown-up, and I do what I want.

Rie is a human and she is also a changeling. Over a hundred years ago high elves found her and took her to their realm and now she is unable to see the sunset in the human realm. More importantly, she is a messenger, an esteemed position with very few humans in it. One day, while delivering a message she is attacked by two blood sidhe. But blood sidhe shouldn't be there. And how would she explain this to the king of the Upper Court? Any connection with those from the Shadow Court means immediate execution, no explanation, no trial. Thus Rie begins a journey to prove her innocence in tow our her pixie friends who never leave her side and a quirky blood sidhe who acts as her guide around the capital of the Shadow Court.

Who tried to kill her and why? Rie risks it all to find answers.

While the fighting scenes were fun and the descriptions dutiful and never-boring. I felt like Rie's character changed quite often in order to fit the current plot goal which was a but upsetting. A woman who just promises herself that she won't do something does it just because it adds a little more internal conflict even though it is completely out of character.

Don't get me wrong, I was grateful to have this as a road trip book but it let me down in some areas.

A quick read. I liked the story although trying to sort out all of the various magical creatures was a challenge. An interesting take on the caste system. Good character development and a strong central female character who doesn't need anyone to save her.
