The Twisted series is really popular and gets recommended all the time. This is the second book; they are all standalones that follow this friend group. In this one, we have a slow-burn bodyguard meets royalty romance, and it was interesting to see play out. We do span over a pretty big timeline. Plus, the beginning of this book starts in the middle of the previous book, so some events happen again but in Bridgette or Rhys's POV. I appreciated that, but I wish this one had more suspense or drama. Things stalled out too much for me. But I liked that these two didn't give in to their feelings, and everything was happy ever after. These two struggled to get together and stay together, and I appreciated that side.

yall... this mf book!!!

people talk about their book boyfriends but i don't think anyone understands that Rhys Larsen is literally the book boyfriend. Like he knows exactly when to be funny, he's protective, he's brooding, he hates everyone but her. like he is literally the only man.

on a different note, the amount of different turns this book took?? like not one chapter went by where i wasn't wondering what happened next. the plot of this book was so wild in genuinely the best way.

all in all, i loved this book. it is definitely one of my top reads this year for sure.

I didn’t think I’d find an Ana book that I disliked more than King of Wrath, but sadly, I did. And I really am sad about it, because through the entire first half, I was having such a blast with this book. I thought it would end up a favorite alongside King of Pride. But Rhys’ possessive temper tantrums got really old really fast, and then I was decidedly not having a blast.

It also doesn’t help that, the more I think about it, the more I realize that Bridget and Rhys have absolutely nothing to base a relationship on. All they ever do is screw around. Ana’s other couples have foundations upon which their relationships are built, but these two are just lust. Their story is just smut. Like if you took the vibes of Princess Diaries 2, combined with the vibes of Red White and Royal Blue, but replaced 90% of the plots with (rather repetitive) smut.

And damn, is it disappointing.

Extra half star for the first half, though, because it was fun while it lasted. And the teasing glimpses of future couples have made the rest (nearly) worth it.

Current series ranking:
  1. Twisted Love (I’m shocked too)
  2. Twisted Games (I’m sad)

Representation:
  • Chinese-American side characters
  • fat side character
  • multiracial side character (Japanese, Black & Puerto Rican)
