I often read nonfiction, but it’s not often that a book is both as informative and as captivating as this. Dopesick was one of the best written books I’ve read, so I knew I had to read this. It’s informative and honest, brought me to tears and didn’t sugarcoat the horrors of the opioid epidemic or the steps it will take to address. Macy directly addresses the atrocities that the Sackler family committed in their role at Purdue Pharma and in court cases since. I’d recommend this book to anyone who gives a shit about people who use drugs and wants to know where we go from here. And this should be mandatory reading for healthcare professionals who interact with drug users (read: all of them.)
