This is a remarkable book that manages to closely visit each POV character despite only spending one chapter with each. This book does an incredible job at sweeping through history while still feeling intimate. I loved this, and the audiobook is excellently narrated.

Yaa Gyasi had such a clear vision for this novel, and she executed it beautifully. Although I wish some of the chapters were longer so I got more time with some of the characters, this truly is a remarkable piece of literature that should be considered a modern classic. One of my favorite components of the novel was the dichotomy between Fire and Water, which was beautifully addressed in the book’s final chapter. Be aware of the content before reading as it might be triggering, but this truly is a must read.
