Simultaneously full of heart and horror, this incredibly crafted book left me feeling deeply human.

sadness prevails. I did like the way Gyasi brought it all together in the end.

I am most definitely in the minority here. My major issue with this book, is that although the chapters are somehow intertwined, it's ultimately told as a compilation of short stories. I find it really difficult to get into and enjoy short stories, as I often time feel authors jam too much information into a tiny section. As a whole, the book itself was great, but how the story was told just didn't work for me.

This is one of the best stories I’ve ever read. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming at every turn & I really enjoyed the way the chapters went along, person by person. It’s one of those novels I feel like everyone should read!

Maybe the best book I’ve read this year. Recommending it to everyone I know. Heavy topics that I’m still thinking about daily.

This book paints such a beautiful, holistic picture of the African/African-American experience. Gyasi's prose is eloquent with brutally honest story lines. For extra fun, the audiobook narrator customizes accents for each character!
