I loved being back in this world and I realized I will never get tired of Allomancers jumping, flying, gliding thought the mists.

I had kinda low expectations for this book because I heard it's not as good as Era 1. But truly, how do you compare something to the definition of perfection that Mistborn Era 1 is for me? I was also skeptical because I don't enjoy western like settings. But I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the setting of the book! Loved the exploration of how the magic system changes and adepts in this era, reminiscent of the industrial age. It was also fascinating to see how the world evolved in the 300 years after the ending of Era 1, how details from the past are remembered in myths, legends, religions and places. I almost cried every time I recognized a name or a detail that was mentioned.

I was also surprised by how much fun I had with the plot and the characters in this book. Although both are not as brilliant, developed, well constructed and epic as the first three books, I loved spending time with Wax, Wayne and Marasi. Their banter was funny and I was never bored. I was just not as emotionally invested in them as in Vin, Kel and the crew of Era 1. Plus, I was super intrigues by the prologue which felt like a Criminal Minds episode and all the tales of serial killers Wax had brought to justice... just for the mystery of the majority of the plot to be robberies. I mean, I enjoyed the story for what it was, but I hope it gets a little bit more exciting in the next books.

After the epilogue, I am definitely curious how the series will continue and how it will fit in the broader timeline and the cosmere.

Just as good as the first time I read it. Even better. I noticed so many things that I didn't before. I love Mistborn.

5/02/2023 Original review:

This entire book was so epic.

I love the new characters. They're so awesome and work amazingly together. Their banter was so funny.

The setting was great. It's like a Sherlockian steam punk world. I love it so much.

The story was full of action and intrigue. Definitely an addictive page-turner.

I loved all the small references to the previous trilogy and how the lore was even more expanded. We have new terms for different types of allomancy, new metals, new powers. It was so satisfying to learn about it.
I DON'T KNOW WHO IRONEYES IS??? I FEEL STUPID. WHO IS HE??? IS IT KELSIER??? BUT HE'S NOT CORPOREAL. IS IT MARSH? I DON'T REMEBER IF HE DIED. I THINK HE DID. AND EVEN IF HE DIDN'T, HE'S NOT IMMORTAL. WHO IS IRONEYES???? I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD KNOW... I will finish the trilogy, and if I still don't know who he is by the end of it, I will look it up. I FEEL SO FRUSTRATED

EDIT:

OH IM SO STUPID. IRONEYES IS SPOOK!!!

20/02/2024 UPDATE: I AM THE DUMBEST PERSON ON PLANET EARTH. I DESERVE TO BE TORTURED! MARSH IS IRONEYES. HOLY CRAP. WHY DID IT TAKE ME SO LONG TO REALISE?

I'm excited to continue this trilogy and read more about my beloved Wax, Wayne and Marasi.

This was definitely more enjoyable the second time around, for a couple of reasons I think. First, I wasn’t as hung up emotionally about the cast from the first trilogy as I was the first time around. Second, instead of viewing this as a “western” (which I kind of loathe) I just framed it as a high fantasy set in the wild west—which, I mean, it *IS*. So I was able to really appreciate the incredible world building and magic system that Sanderson created for what they are: INCREDIBLE. Also, I forgot how freaking funny Wayne is. That dude CRACKS ME UP!

Very different from the Era 1 Mistborn Trilogy, but just as wonderful in its own right. This book has a great new cast of characters doing Sherlock Holmes-style detective work with action throughout, and offers an intriguing (and sweetly emotional at times) expansion on the world from the first series. It was also MUCH funnier than I expected going in. I loved it to pieces, and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
