I found this book really difficult to follow and was surprised to find out it was the first of a series. There were a lot of acronyms that were never explained. The last 3rd of the book was good but fairly predictable. I won't be picking up the rest in the series
Graphic: War, Injury/Injury detail, and Death
Moderate: Police brutality, Sexism, Addiction, Gore, Gun violence, Drug abuse, and Homophobia

This series is a favourite of my boyfriends and he has begged me to read it for over a year, I’m so happy I finally did.
I’m not usually one for detective books, but this drew me in instantly and kept me hooked on until the end. I can’t wait to read the next one. It perfectly blends history and emotion into a desperate search for truth while lacing it with an image distrust of law enforcement.
My only major critique would be the chapters are a bit long, there’s very rarely a natural stopping point

I liked it but it is definitely a book of a certain time. There's homophobia and transphobia and smoking and paternalism. It was interesting to read the first Bosch book, I've been a fan of the series for a while.
The dialog felt a little stilted at times.
I miss Maddie Bosch. I think she kept Bosch from being a total sad sack.
