Atmospheric, delightful. Full of connection and change. The Trans-Siberian Railway has long inspired literary homages, and this is the latest in that long tradition, but it's so much more than that. Similar world building style to Piranesi, they're not the same in many respects, but the numinous quality of the Wastelands strongly reminds me of the House.

This was fine, but everything from the world to the characters to the plot fell flat for me. The mysterious atmosphere was well done, so if you’re a vibes reader, this will probably work better for you than it did me.

I had a feeling I was going to enjoy this book but I wasn't prepared for how quickly I would be caught up in the characters, the environment, and the journey itself. The atmosphere that Brooks created within the Wastelands and our train was phenomenal and I found each of the characters POVs just as interesting as the next - I truly couldn't pick a favorite; the voices were so unique and provided such different perspectives on the Wastelands, The Company, and the train.
