I must say I was deeply disappointed in this book. It says right there on the cover “fans of Elenor oliphant will love this book” I bought it without a minutes hesitation. Then there I was, at page 200 STILL waiting for something interesting to happen. It wasn’t a terrible book. But it wasn’t at all captivating. I wouldnt be surprised to hear that someone loved this book. But I wouldn’t recommend it. Not worth the time.

Really enjoyed this one. It’s a little predictable and I guessed what was going to happen by halfway through but still, it was an interesting story. The audible presentation of this novel was great!

A thoroughly enjoyable read. Fans of Eleanor Olyphant and Ove will enjoy Susan Green. But there is more here to love than a retread of those books. Watch this character come alive and step out of her comfort zone. You will be rooting for her the whole way despite her prickly exterior.

Unexpectedly, The Cactus is a pretty fun ride. True, it doesn't have the foundation to be a light story, with our main character, Suzan, being in the middle of a personal crisis, but the narration does loads of magic. Also, the narrator of the audiobook did a great job of giving the story a nice pace and distinguishing each character.

As for the story, and even though the main character is what makes the whole book worth reading, it's pretty smart, as it combines everything together in the end. However, the romance was a bit lukewarm, off pace, and out of focus, as the story was mostly concentrated on Suzan's other problems. Still, it helped with her character development.

At first I worried it was going to be too much like "Eleanor Oliphant" for me to appreciate it in its own right, but that fear did not last long. I quickly became engrossed in the life of Susan. Really enjoyed this one.

This was a really solid story. I feel somewhat ambivalent about the book itself. I didn’t enjoy myself reading it, but I really love that the main character’s not very likable. She’s brusque and comes off kind of rude, but she’s still relatable. And her story is worth telling.
